Working in Edit Mode

By now you should be able to add controls and link them to Vera-controlled devices (if not, see the Getting Started section).

This section explains a few advanced options for configuring HomeWave:

  • Moving and resizing controls;
  • Setting a PIN to protect the app;
  • Locking controls;
  • Setting a Default screen;

Moving and resizing controls

You’ll have noticed that HomeWave controls are laid out on a grid.  You can change the control size for all or part of the grid:

First select the part of the grid you wish to change: drag your finger across the grid to select one or more cells.  Note that you can only select a rectangular area of cells that are all the same size.

Now tap the Grid button .  A window will appear, showing the number of controls on the selected area.  Changing the number of controls will resize the controls in the selected area accordingly.

You can also move controls around.  Tap and hold a control for a few seconds until it changes size slightly.  You can now drag it to a different grid cell or to another control.  Release to move the control, or swap positions in case you dragged the control on top of another one.

If you changed the size of the controls but want to start over, you can reset the grid by tapping the Grid button and choosing the Reset option.  This will change all controls to the same size.

Setting a PIN to protect HomeWave

If there are others beside yourself using HomeWave, you may want to protect the app with a PIN so that others will not inadvertedly change the configuration.  You can set, change or remove the PIN by switching to the Home Screen, tapping the Info button , and tapping the PIN button on the info screen.  You will be asked for the current PIN (if one is set), then you can enter and confirm the new PIN.

Setting a PIN has the following effects:

  • Entering the PIN will be required before the Home and Control screens can be edited;
  • Individual controls protected by PIN (see below) will now ask for the PIN before you are allowed to use them.

Make sure to remember the PIN, as it cannot be removed or changed otherwise!

Locking controls

Interactive controls such as switches and scene buttons will be enabled by default, but depending on the type of control, you may have additional options to manage user interaction.

To do this, go into edit mode, select the Control, and click the setup button .  You’ll see a bar with some or all of the options shown here:

  • Disabled: this will disable the control; no interaction is possible.
  • Enabled: normal operation;
  • Ask: when the control is clicked, a popup window appears, asking the user to confirm or cancel the action;
  • Pin: if a PIN is set, the user will have to enter it before the control can be operated.

Setting a Default screen

On the info screen, you can also set a Default Screen.  When HomeWave is started, it will always switch to the Default Screen if one is specified.

In addition, you can specify a period of time after which the app will switch back to the Default Screen automatically.  This timer is set in the App Settings.
